WAX AWAY
Staying stubble free isn’t always easy during months of sleeveless shirts and bare legs. And skipping over to the salon isn’t always feasible, nor is shaving on a daily basis. We’ve started waxing at home, and it’s not as scary as you might think, since waxing removes hair from the roots meaning it takes about four weeks for it to grow back, and hair can often come in thinner rather than more coarse, as with shaving.
For easy at home hair removal FrontRowMag.com recommends Andrea Professionals Wax Strips for the Body Kit ($11). Included in the kit are pre-waxed strips for mess free application and removal and Azulene oil to sooth skin post wax. To tackle waxing on your own here are a few tips and tricks:
To help prep skin, a warm shower or compress is recommended right before to open up pores and allow smooth removal of the hair follicles. On the other hand, do not take a hot bath before or after waxing as a long soak can make skin more sensitive.
Exfoliate before waxing to slough off dead skin cells, which also allows for easier hair removal.
Do not wax on sensitive, broken or sunburned skin and definitely avoid waxing over pimples, moles, rashes or varicose veins. Waxing can be painful enough and no one wants to inflict further damage on sensitive areas.
Hair should be ¼-inch long for best results as it gives something for the wax to grab on to.
When using a wax strip, press the strip down in the direction of hair growth and then remove it quickly in the opposite direction.
Post waxing, avoid exposing the waxed area to the sun for 24 hours and avoid waxing more frequently than once every 10 days.
Andrea Professionals is available at mass retailers across Canada including: Loblaws, Superstores, London Drugs, PharmaPlus and Rexall.
