Top Five Trends from LG Fashion Week

1. Zip It: Denis Gagnon, who had editors scrambling for his zippered Aldo heels a few season ago, took it back with a leather- and zipper-heavy fall collection. Also spotted at Amanda Lew Kee, Arthur Mendonça, Lovas and Pink Tartan, exposed zippers are nothing new, and thankfully they are not going anywhere anytime soon.

2. Velvet Crush: When Izma sent a burnt gold velvet jumper down the runway on catwalk stunner Tara Gill on the first night of fashion week, we knew we were in serious lust—with the trend and the label! Done oh-so-right throughout rogue and fashion week proper, velvet was seen at Greta Constantine, Arthur Mendonça, Label (in a rockin’ baby doll dress), and Amanda Lew Kee (in the sexiest of secretary pencil skirts).

3. Purple and Teal: Indulging our moody, fall palette is one thing, but most labels chose to up the anty by adding a hit of the royal hue, and brighten things up with a punch of teal. Line, Sarah Stevenson (incorporating both colours in her in painterly floral prints), VAWK, Greta Constantine, Arthur Mendonça (love that juicy jersey purple), Lundström and Cydelic by Choryin (think: purple buttons and a peak of purple tulle), all had notes of these same colours in their fall collections.

4. Chevrons: Pointing fashion-lovers in the right direction, chevrons were prominent through-out the week, seen at VAWK, in fur trimmed angles on coats and capes, at IZMA on a slinky, silver sequined jumper and mini-dress, as well as at Diepo, where the design duo used a cream sheer fabric with feathered chevrons on a dress, blouse and skirt within the collection.

5. Knit Play: Taking cues from knit master Mark Fast, VAWK, Cydelic by Choryin, Joe Fresh, and Denis Gagnon, all took their wool wardrobes seriously for fall. Not to mention knit’s reigning king and queen from Line.
