Young designer Thomas Tait, 24, kicked off The ShowsThursday with a nod to mod featuring boxy frames, a-line forms and plenty of structure. The show, held in the ballroom at the recently opened Ritz Carlton, opened with more masculine pieces, ie. fabrics always falling away from the body. Pieces were layered and tiered to give the illusion of more shape and many looks gave off a preppy vibe using muted pastels and hot white, perfect for a day on the couture tennis courts. As the show progressed, the looks grew more feminine, and closer to the body, with dresses and skirts. Many of the garments featured a tuxedo style train and models donned futuristic sunglasses and simple, custom-made kicks, leaving full attention on the garments. Though not quite an off-the-rack line, Tait created flattering lines and interesting textures sure to provide some summer inspiration.
