FROM THE FARM TO THE FACE
Tata Harper swings by Gee Beauty to talk about her natural skin care line
With a cult following in the U.S. and U.K. Tata Harper’s namesake 100 percent natural skincare line has caught on with tastemakers such as Lauren Santo Domingo and has been featured in Vogue and Allure. The line is available exclusively at Gee Beauty in Toronto and recently Harper popped in to the beauty emporium to discuss the brand.
“Having the farm, I kind of experienced Food Inc. in person,” Harper told FrontRowMag.com. Located in Vermont, her family farm now grows 13 percent of the ingredients found in her namesake skincare line. In starting Tata Harper, the brand, it took five years to develop the line of 14 products, because the formulas had to be created from scratch. “I had already changed the way I cleaned my house, but never really made the connection with beauty. I wanted to go all-natural and found it very difficult, the reality is there isn’t anything 100 percent natural,” explained Harper. Typically cosmetics labs have pre-made base formulas to customize but none of them worked for Harper as they weren’t what she was looking for. Lacking the knowledge in science, Harper worked with many different chemists and acted as a facilitator to make her dream skincare line happen.
Unlike many other products on the market, there is no star ingredient. We’ve become fast fans of the Regenerating Cleanser ($50, 50ml; $75, 125 ml) with apricot seed and willow bark to exfoliate and promote cell renewal and Hydrating Floral Essence ($65, 50ml; $85, 125ml), which hydrates the skin with rose extract and reduces wrinkles with the help of orange blossom.
Tata Harper skincare is available at Gee Beauty and online at Tata Harper.
