Sid Neigum Fall 2011

One of fashion week’s youngest designers (he’s only 22!), Sid Neigum showed his Fall 2011 collection, staying true to the phenom’s raw and daring rep. Edgiest moment of the show? One model rebelled and took off her shoes mid-runway amid applause from the well-heeled audience. In looks almost solely in shades of grey, alongside hints of hunter green, the models were sent out against a white backdrop, with the women wearing top buns and black lipstick, and the men sporting long, untamed tresses. Opening up with his-and-her gorilla-fur coats, and continued by highlighting elongated shapes and pointed accents (we especially liked the illusions of an outwardly sharp elbow!). Neigum focused on interesting sleeves, including a men’s jacket with thick, gathered material at the wrist, and the illusion of layered sleeve lengths. A stunning piece for those fashion risk-takers was the fabulous black dress with a belly button graving front exposing. Neigum’s leather pieces were accented with subtle prints and featured excess, layered material at the back. Judging from the crowds response, it’s easy to say that Neigum met the expectations of his critics with his hard style and futuristic cuts.
