DESIGNER ON THE RISE
Paris Li Spring 2011
Toronto Fashion Incubator New Label finalist Paris Li’s Spring 2011 collection is a play on bright colours and pleating, something the art major is quickly becoming a master at in Canada, her adopted country. Originally from China, Li, who goes home twice a year, purchases all her fabric from her homeland, as well as has her garments produced there. Her new 21-piece collection, Li’s third outing, makes use of purple, pink and grey laser printed silks, as well as staple blacks and whites. Throw in some on-trend deep khaki green and black thin jersey (a first for the budding designer) with hardware detailing on the shoulders, and Li’s latest is sure to be a hit with her ever expanding customer base.
Quickly becoming a designer to watch in the Toronto fashion landscape having gained major media exposure over the past year (think: being taken under the wing of PR main man John McKay, as well as being asked to participate in the Cashmere Collection, with her tissue paper gown currently on display at The Bay on Queen Street), Li is still a sweet and soft-spoken fashion entrepreneur, who received her bachelor of art degree in China before working towards her masters at the Birmingham Institute of Art & Design in the UK. Her artfully tailored pieces, ranging from $195-$405, are available at Your Choice, and by private appointments and will soon be seen online at ukamaku.com.
