OUR FAVOURITE THINGS: FASHION WEEK EDITION
Though it already seems like a lifetime ago (the glorious summer climes and a three-day weekend certainly helped), there were a few moments and faces that stood out as the best at Fall 2010 LG Fashion Week.
Model of the Week: The face of LG Fashion Week, Toronto-native Tara Gill, who’s walked for Hermes, Erdem and Jean Paul Gaultier, was spotted all over the AllStream Centre, and the rest of her home town for that matter, on flyer’s and promo posters, as well as making exits at all the major shows like Pink Tartan and Comrags.
Siren Song: After a 10 year hiatus from the music game, the elusive Sade came back with Soldier of Love, the singer and her bands fifth album since 1985, this past February, and the chart topping, thumping mid-tempo first single of the same name seemed to be the song of choice during LG Fashion Week, played at multiple shows throughout the week.Best Party: Women X Women, Thrush Holmes Gallery.
Any event that pushes women to the forefront of fashion, with the photo essays by Renata Kaveh, Lindsay Drennan and Lily and Lilac et al, as the stunning backdrop, is obviously alright with us. Add to the mix, designer’s Lucian Matis, Kirk Pickersgill, a smattering of fresh of the runway pretty young things, cute male photographers and industry types, and free-flowing champagne and you’ve got yourself a closing night party to remember.
Joe Knows: How to do a runway presentation, that is. Always the hottest ticket, Joe Fresh is known for his special guest models, and this season he upped his game by putting “plus-size” model of the moment Crystal Renn as the opening (and closing exit), and added 90s supe Kirsten Owen right behind her. We wish the JF team would keep these little treasures more of a secret, though.
Top Trends: Whether is was the loads of cozy knits (we loved the backwards and belted cardigan at Comrags, and the camel sweaters at Attitude), or the mix of leather and fur which started at Sunday nights IZMA show, we couldn’t help but notice other trends of lace, velvet and even shards of mirror, first spotted at Greta Constantine during what was cheekily dubbed “rogue fashion week” and spotted once again in David Dixon’s eponymous collection.
