Maintain moisture while shunning shine this summer
As beauty enthusiasts all know, the sweat, humidity and pollution that goes hand-in-hand with summer can cause skin to react with breakouts and excessive shine. The tendency to want to over cleanse, which strips away much needed natural oils, can cause our skin to become worse for wear. Here are our picks for controlling shine and keeping skin clear and moisturized.
1. Kiehl’s latest Ultra Facial Oil-Free collection aims to strengthen and protect the skin’s barrier. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Cleanser ($25, kiehls.com) removes excess oil, while Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Toner ($22.50, kiehls.com) hydrates to balance skin and Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil-Free Lotion ($32, kiehls.com) provides 24-hour hydration, as well as claiming to immediately reduce shine by 82 percent.
2. For additional moisture, pick up SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel (30ml, $78, available at spas and med-spas across Canada, skinceuticals.com), an oil-free formula with hyaluronic acid that helps to bind moisture to the skin, while B5 aids tissue repair.
3. If you’re planning to jet set, pick up Sephora’s Instant Moisture Kit ($31, sephora.ca). The Supreme Cleansing Foam, Instant Depuffing Roll-On Gel and Instant Moisturizer all include the super moisturizing ingredient HydroSenn+ and the mini sizes are perfect for clearing airport security.
4. For really stubborn breakouts, we like Dermalogica’s Major Breakout Clean Start Mini Kit, which includes Wash Off, a foaming facial cleanser, Bedtime for Breakouts, an overnight treatment, and Hit the Spot, a concentrated spot treatment. ($20, cleanstart.dermalogica.ca)
