WRAPPED IN ADVENTURE
Mélissa Nepton Spring 2012
Montreal-based designer Mélissa Nepton brought the “urban working girl” to life with her latest collection, highlighted by her ever-innovative draping techniques. The colour palette was primarily neutral, save for some pieces featuring a gradient peach hue. A fabulous wide pin stripe was used throughout and sheer was the main choice of transparency. Nepton used layering of to add volume and to disguise the female form while maintaining a single sheer layer through the back. Models wore clear visors attached to the hair in an almost fascinator fashion. The designer also played with the boundaries of a single garment, and one standout piece appeared to be a sheer, layered dress at the front but, once turned around, the model exposed a solid black crop top and skirt. Nepton used unique, textured sheers and complemented ensembles with chain and plastic cross-body jewellery. Inspired by a desert safari, Nepton took artistic merit with each of her three signature dresses: sheath, draped and shirtdress.
