LONDON FASHION WEEK SPRING 2011 ROUND-UP

New York fashion week ended with a few standout collections but it was evident everyone came to London this season to see something exciting. The international editors were out in full force, partially due to the massive Alexander McQueen memorial that drew a crowd of friends and admirers, but always making the best of a bad situation, the turnout gave London designers the chance to show to international editors who rarely make it to the British capital. There were seventies shifts a plenty but unexpected minimalism and graphic prints were the stars of LFW. Newly established Mary Katrantzou, who showed in a double header with Mark Fast this season, brought out a collection of graphic designs that attracted the likes of Vogue Nippon to her show. Showing in the Topshop space, an old train terminal that also played host to Unique’s supermodel heavy production, the open space and natural light was a perfect backdrop for her bright, blocky look, that seemed to captivate all.
