LES CONTRASTES DE CHANEL
Chanel never fails to give a little luxury to those who find the ready-to-wear or couture collections out of reach. This fall, global creative director of CHANEL makeup, Peter Philips, brings in some soft pink shades, and even some purple hues, to complement the chicest of taupe’s.
Taking center stage is the Joues Contraste, an essential blush for that perfect flush. The avant-garde baked powder technology paired with the soft, wide brush especially created for the Joues Contraste formula makes it your new makeup bag staple. Our favourite shade is the limited edition Rose Temptation ($47), which is a universally flattering rosewood that provides a delicate, natural glow.
Les 4 Ombres Enigma ($61) eye shadow palette includes warm shades of grey brown and spiced pink as well as cool shades of metallic grey and shadowy plum. The Ombre Essentielle are both slightly iridescent and the Taupe Grisé ($34) and Vert Khaki ($34) are complementary to the nude and taupe shades of the season. As for lining your lids, the Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Cassis ($28) punches up the grey and metallic eye shadows with an on-trend purple hue.
To complement rather than compete with eyes, Philips opted for neutral lips with pink and peach bases. Our picks are the Lévres Scintillantes gloss in Coral Love ($31), an apricot with a hint of gold and Rouge COCO lipstick in Chintz ($38), a light natural shade of peach.
As always, Chanel continues to dictate nail trends this season with two shades for the Le Vernis collection. Reintroduced this season is the soft, nearly nude pink that is Jade Rose ($26) and the “It” colour for the Fall 2010 is Paradoxal ($26), a greige/plum that has a shimmer in the bottle, but finishes more like a cream. For those who typically stray away from darker or stranger colours of polish, Paradoxal is a nice introduction as the hint of aubergine adds interest compared to any other greige but remains neutral enough that it isn’t too eye catching.
