CUTTING THE FASHION RUG

In what was more of a theatrical performance than a runway show, Kristen Korhani introduced her 2012 collection of themed rugs, opening with a Moroccan scene and belly dancer, with embellished accessories and a carpet train. The smokey eye makeup on the catwalkers added to the visible Eastern influences. The second portion of the show reminded us why the ’80s should never have a comeback! The men donned bleach blonde locks with neon sweatbands while the women wore heavy eye makeup, excessive blush and broad “rug”ged shoulders. But the highlight of the show came at the end with an Alice in Wonderland theme featuring the Mad Hatter, the Red Queen, Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum and, of course, Alice carrying a white rabbit. Though this is Korhani’s second runway experience, it’s still hard to believe it’s all made from carpet!
