PRINTS CHARMING
JUMA Fall 2011
Sibling designers Alia and Jamil Juma continue to push the androgynous button with their Fall 2011 collection for label JUMA, ending the first night of fashion week. After showing their Spring 2011 line at the Spoke Club on King Street last fall, they opted to participate in the LGFW lineup this season. “We were shown this more intimate setting and that’s kind of our vibe,” said Jamil, of the Studio runway used for their Monday night show.
Using Tibet and Indonesia as inspirations, according to Alia, the line features their signature strong prints, including the recurring and eye-catching rainbow native print. The duo, who specialize in scarves, offered unique images including a Tibetan yak and subtle owl prints. But Alia says the two aren’t taking a break from their continuous search for innovative ideas. “[Jamil]‘s going to New York tomorrow and I’m off to Asia in a few weeks.”
Also taking things to a new level, the team produced an original fashion film to go along with this season. Go to www.jumastudio.com to watch JUMA’s Kaleidoscope, exhibiting their Fall 2011 collection.
