SHEER GENIUS
IZMA Fall 2011
Setting the bar higher than a pair of over-the-knee stilettos, design duo Adrian Mainella and Izzy Camilleri presented their line of sustainable furs, showcasing their first ever ready-to-wear items, on the opening night of LG Fashion Week. A cross between Studio 54 (think jumper’s and disco sequins) and The Great Gatsby (sheer and flapper-inspired frocks), the second collection for IZMA was true Old Hollywood glamour. There were simple and sophisticated jumpsuits in silk velvet, silver sequined chevrons and a purple painterly pattern, a floral silk velvet dress and pant, sequined mini’s and pencil skirts, and sheer skirts and pants over sequined body suits, all perfectly paired with a fur stole, vest, or jacket in deep browns, ruby reds, and the blackest black and accented with gold hardware.
The guest-list included Jeremy Laing, Suzanne Boyd (in head-to-toe cream, with a glorious fur!), Kim Newport Mimran (also rockin’ the monochrome look, but this time in sea blue) and a smattering of Toronto’s most social residents. Not to mention the star studded runway! The first two looks came out on the backs of Amanda Laine and Tara Gill, both well rested since walking in the other major shows over 3 weeks prior.
Our only hope is this foray into ready-to-wear means will won’t have to wait another year to see the next IZMA collection!
