5 MINUTES WITH…
The voice behind international chart topper “Like A G6”
With her recent tour across Canada and her current single “Bass Down Low” closing an episode of FASHION Television, you can forget the term “up-and-coming”—singer Dev is on the edge of exploding.
FrontRowMag.com: The boys from Far East Movement, who you collaborated with on the 2010 summer party track “Like a G6,” describe you as “a cool girl from Cali.” How do you feel about everything that is happening for you right now?
Dev: It was such a good experience to share the success of the record with all the boys, including my producers and best friends The Cataracs. The song has definitely brought along a lot of good things for me. And now I’m working on creating more interesting songs for the masses to listen to.
FRM: Your style is evident in the “Bass Down Low” music video. What influences what you wear?
D: Stylistically, I get influenced from anything really—cities, people, blogs, music. I always wear women’s street brand Hellz Bellz [hellz-bellz.com]. They have styled all of my videos and Hellz Bellz by far my favourite line eva! [laughs.]
FRM: What do you wear daily when running around town?
D: That depends. Some days, I’ll wear heels everywhere just for the f*ck of it. And other days, I’m just in jeans and sneakers.
FRM: Where do you hope your music takes you?
D: As far as it can. I’m lucky enough to be doing what I love—I don’t think too many people get to experience that in life. So I’m going to ride this journey out as long as I can and I hope that plenty of great times come along with it.
