THE BRITISH ARE COMING!

God Save The Queen

Seven top British, or British-based, designers came across the pond for an unprecedented panel event held at The Room at The Bay on Queen Street on October 15.

Giles Deacon, Erdem Moralioglu, Mark Fast, Nicholas Kirkwood, Charlotte Olympia Dellal, Jonathan Saunders, Marios Schwab and Lula Magazine founder Leith Clark discussed the paths that led to the success of each their brands: education at Cordwainers College, internships at Vivienne Westwood and tens of thousands of dollars in competition winnings used to fund studios, to name a few.

The “God Save the Queen” collection was launched with a gala Thursday night for the Toronto fashion set, on display, each designer’s pieces.

The styles were drastically different, but all demonstrated a sense of fashionable freedom, the central point of the “Next Wave of British Fashion” discussion, where each designer detailed their future roles.

Erdem, a Ryerson graduate, was among the most favoured, featuring eccentric prints and timeless shapes in his collection, while Charlotte Olympia stood out with the detailed, vibrancy of her shoe line.
