Our favourite gentle face cleansers
From dry air, wind that makes our cheeks raw and the brief bursts of fake spring, we still all want clean, soft skin. With these stressor’s causing unwanted irritation on our skin, we test drove a few of the new cleanser’s on the market. Here are our favourites:
Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser ($25, kiehls.ca) is ideal for all skin types. PH-balanced to maintain
the skin’s natural balance and includes effective emolients such as apricot kernel oil and vitamin E to dissolve excess dirt and oil, while the sugar-derived glycoside foaming agent purifies skin without
over-drying.
J.R. Watkins Daily Cleansing Cream ($11, available at Pharmasave, Value Drug Mart, Paragon Drugs, Pusataris, & Rainbow Foods) is 100 percent natural, paraben-free and rich in emollients. It may feel as though there’s a film while using the product, but don’t wash your face again with a harsh cleanser, as this ultra rich moisturizing formula is ideal for dry and aging skin, and will penetrate deep to keep skin soft even in the driest of environments.
Beauty Garden by Sothys Helianthus and Walnut Shell Exfoliant ($34, available at select spas, sothys.com) is a mild exfoliant that uses finely ground walnut shells to slough away dead skin cells, organic helianthus oil extract to soften skin, and a Vegetal Moisturizing Activator complex to add a protective hydrating layer.
Clinique Redness Solutions Soothing Cleanser ($26.50, available at Clinique counters, clinique.ca) is formulated for the most sensitive skin. The frictionless application of the cream-gel formula can be rinsed off or wiped away with a tissue with the help of squalane, ingredient highly effective at removing makeup, dirt and oil without leaving the skin feeling tight.
Dermalogica’s UltraCalming Cleanser ($65, dermalogica.ca) is a super gentle formula that helps fight skin sensitivity triggered by environmental factors as well as those hormonal imbalances and bouts of stress we all go through time to time. Lavender, coneflower and cucumber aid in soothing, calming and cooling irritated skin.
Kiss My Face Potent & Pure Creamy Face Cleanser ($16, available at Loblaws and Whole Foods) for normal to dry skin, is a soap-free formula that uses sugar and corn to gently cleanse the face.
