FASHION FLICK: COCO CHANEL & IGOR STRAVINSKY
Coco Chanel & Igor Stravinsky is based on the novel by Chris Greenhalgh, which chronicles the brief affair between French designer Gabrielle Chanel (played by Anna Mouglalis) and Russian composer, Igor Stravinsky (Mads Mikkelsen). The film richly depicts Mademoiselle Chanel’s world of luxury fashion and design, while also focussing on the creative process behind her celebrated fragrance, No. 5.
For the film, Chanel granted filmmakers full access to their archives and Coco Chanel’s famous apartment at 31 Rue Cambon in Paris to help accurately recreate the designer’s world. The brand also supported production by lending several original garments and accessories, which were worn by Mouglalis, who herself is a former Chanel model. Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld even designed an embroidered evening gown for Mouglalis to wear during one of the scenes.
The film is in French, Russian and English with subtitles and opens in Toronto (Cumberland) and Vancouver (Ridge) June 25, with other Canadian cities to follow.
