The Room at The Bay welcomes Thakoon
When you have fans in Anna Wintour, Leigh Lezark and Michelle Obama, to name just a few, and you have made a cameo in one of the fashion industries favourite documentaries, The September Issue, you certainly have every reason to brag. But the audience at Monday night’s cocktail party held at The Room at The Bay on Queen Street couldn’t seem to get over how sweet and down-to-earth Thai/American designer Thakoon Panichugal really was. Stylist, and stylish man, George Antonopolous later tweeted: “Met Thakoon last night at the Room…So humble and cool…the only way to be.” And he wasn’t the only one with said opinion. The soft-spoken and somewhat small Panichugal, who is in his mid-30s, quietly worked the crowd, showing off his fall, resort and spring collections, all while chatting with Derick Chetty of the Toronto Star, Jeanne Beker, Sunny Fong, Stacey Kimmel and jewelry designer Shaye Lowe, as well as The Room’s main man Nicholas Mellamphy and bf Shinan Govani. Dubbed as the last party of the season for The Bay, they certainly went out on a softly sweet high note.
