New designer purse challenge helps to promote local talent
The Crystal Light Designer Purse Challenge event took place at the Design Exchange in Toronto recently, whittling down a pool of talent to just four finalists, all hailing from different universities in Ontario, and ultimately letting fans help to dole out the top prize.
“This event is a great opportunity for all young designers to showcase their work,” said Stacey McKenzie, a Toronto-based supermodel and a judge on the panel. The new designers were asked to create a handbag incorporating a Crystal Light flavour with a funky twist, and the competition, which started out with eight finalists, is now down to Chantelle Anderson (George Brown College), Dina Bahgat (George Brown College), Jennifer Burland (Fanshawe College) and Andrea Pascual (OCAD), who were judged based upon creativity and how well their bag related to the theme.
The public now gets a chance to win one of these unique purses and a swag bag worth of $1,000 items simply by voting. In the end the designer with the most votes is rewarded $5,000.
