DESIGNER ON THE RISE
Georgia Hardinge
Since graduating from Parsons Paris in 2008, London-based Georgia Hardinge has skyrocketed rather quickly within the fashion industry, landing coveted awards and opportunities, such as her collaboration with Charlotte Stockdale on dresses for the 2010 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, as well coverage in The Times and on Vogue.com. We at FRM first took notice of Hardinge when we attended her Fall 2011 show during London Fashion Week and the collection amazed us weaving of the themes of death and destruction into streamlined silhouettes and neutral colour palettes.
With all the attention given to the young designer (she’s still just in her twenties), one has to ask what is it that draws one to Hardinge’s designs? In a recent interview with Push It magazine, the twenty-seven year old attributes her emergence into the industry to her love for functional art. And perhaps it is that love that makes her unique and appealing—creating wearable fashion as a means of arts without the intent of creating something “commercial.”
The success has come full circle, as Hardinge recently found herself back in Paris for her alma mater’s annual fashion show. But instead of presenting a graduate collection as she did years ago, she attended as an alumnus, showcasing the development and exploration of her style at the luminous and extravagant Cirque d’Hiver. With all that said, we surely know that much more awaits Hardinge, whose collection is already available worldwide, including in the US, Australia, and Japan, as well as online.
