Canadian designer and stylist Alana Ka’Kia debuts her Holiday 2011 collection
Having worked in fashion for years and after graduating from Parsons School of Art and Design in Paris, Toronto’s own Alana Ka’Kia, a stylist who’s worked with Metric’s Emily Haines and Kid Cudi, teamed up with her fashion forward friends, The Society’s Ashleigh Dempster and Amanda Blakely (both so adorably pregnant it’s unreal!), as well as Natasha Geddes of the recently launched The Coveterie showroom, to present her Holiday 2011 collection to a packed gallery space in Queen West this past Tuesday as part of The Society & ABSOLUT Art Series. The sleek and sexy debut collection from Ka’Kia includes silks and leather with chain mail detailing, in rompers, dresses, jackets and more.
Held in the newly opened Neubacher Shor Contemporary gallery in Parkdale, the crowd of over 200 Society members and well-heeled fashion players, including Haines, MTV’s Aliya Jasmine and the night’s DJ, Broken Social Scene’s Brandon Canning, were treated to a special performance by Metric’s Jimmy Shaw, and The Stills Liam O’Neil and David Hamelin, who performed a musical ode to Ka’Kia created by Shaw especially for the occasion.
