TEENAGE DREAM
David Dixon Fall 2011
Celebrating a designer milestone, fashion week ended night three with a double dose of David Dixon, “Sweet Sixteen” and “Escape to Jakarta.” Dixon gave out a booklet featuring a personal message reflecting on the past 16 years of his career. The “Sweet Sixteen” portion of the show featured six classic outfits from earlier collections, each detailing their inspirations and titles such as “Love Letters,” a fringe-covered frock with a ribbon shouting “No War,” inspired by letters Dixon found that were exchanged between his grandparents during the Second World War. Dixon then presented his “Escape to Jakarta” collection, inspired by the Canadian need for a “mental escape” during our cold, snowy winters. Dixon used Aztec prints and exquisite fabrics including Leopard crepe de chine, leather and sequin paillettes, digital python charmeuse and ikat organza. With 35 looks and six dedicated to the anniversary, Dixon put a theatrical spin on the traditional runway show. Congratulations to David Dixon and company on their success over the past 16 years from Front Row Mag!
