DARE TO WEAR LOVE

Once again this season, the stars came out for the Dare To Wear Love presentation, closing LG Fashion Week with a who’s-who of models strutting down the runway. Juno-winning Keshia Chanté, Anne-Marie Mediwake of Global News and Dina Pugliese of Breakfast Television were just a few of the local celebrities in couture, as well as runway favourite of the week Renee Thompson of Push Models.

Design company Peach Berserk stole the show with a vibrant pink tulle dress, complete with ‘DTW♥’ on the front and a patchwork map of Africa on the back. Modeled by Wendy Mesley of CBC’s The National, the dress featured the colours of the African flag and was subsequently torn off to reveal a stud-accented jersey dress, screaming ‘Stephen Lewis Rox’ on the back and a screen-print of his face on the front.

The show, which consumers could buy tickets to in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, featured crowd-pleasing performances by folk-blues guitarist Madagascar Slim, dancer Laurence Lemieux and singer Shelley Hamilton, as well as an appearance by Dare To Wear Love founders Jim Searle and Chris Tyrell, creators of Hoax Couture. Presenting 24 different designers, the gala show filled to capacity and ended the successful week on a high note.
