Comrags Fall 2011
Veteran Canadian designers Judy Cornish and Joyce Gunhouse (both graduated from Ryerson’s Fashion Arts Programme) showed their fall 2011 collection “Wrest” for their almost 20-year-old label Comrags. The show focused on pairing mismatched florals in earth tones and featured unique floral embroidered hosiery. Classic shapes were given a geometric spin with subtle line detailing and multi-faceted colours. Dresses were loose, with some being cinched at the waist with a simple belt. Using zig zag wool, cotton twill and floral jacquard, the collection played with different colours on identical patterns. “We can hear a song, read a book, or spot some granny on Spadina and be inspired,” said Cornish and Gunhouse. “Vintage dresses and prints always interest us—not the original, but the piece we’re holding in our hands at the Sally Ann that has faded, been mended or altered.” Giving a youthful take on the granny print, Comrags may inspire you to search through that long-forgotten attic.
