CHANEL GOES TO SHANGHAI

Just as the weather begins to warm up, Chanel’s latest cosmetics collection has pre-fall on the mind. Chanel’s pre-fall 2010 collection was shown in Shanghai back in December to an audience of a thousand select fashion insiders and tastemakers. Global creative director of Chanel Makeup, Peter Philips, took inspiration from Karl Lagerfeld’s reference to the film In the Mood for Love and the black and gold palate of the collection to express the opulence and modernity of a city seemingly stuck between the traditional and modern. Throughout the cosmetics collection, Philips played with the notion of contrasts in the two shades and
their finishes.

The mini Orient Extrême Exclusive Collection consists of an eye product and three nail colours. For eyes, Ligne Et Ombre de Chanel in Jet-Gold ($50) contains a gold eyeshadow and black eyeliner. For Nails, Le Vernis in Black Velvet ($30) is an intense black that has a rich finish sitting somewhere between matte and shiny. Le Vernis in Gold Lamé ($30) is a lacquered gold while Illusion d’Or is a clear enamel with gold and plum-blue sparkles ($30). Each polish could be worn solo or layered, having Illusion d’Or as a top coat to either of the two shades or those of us with a steady hand can try the runway look of Gold Lamé with Black Velvet in the style of a French manicure.

Now available at select Chanel boutiques.
