Discover the worlds of Cristóbal Balenciaga and Rei Kawakubo
Although the Galleria Museum in Paris is not set to re-open its doors until next spring, the museum continues its widely popular “outside of its walls” programming. Highlighting two incredibly different, yet equally important, designers – Cristóbal Balenciaga of his eponymous line and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons – the Galleria showcases the differences in the possibilities of innovative fashion. The two exhibitions can be viewed together at the Docks-Cité de la Mode et du Design until October 7th, 2012.

The Met presents “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations”
The much-awaited exhibition– “Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversation” –by the The Met’s Costume Institute has finally opened its doors to the public. Drawing inspiration from caricaturist and art historian Miguel Covarrubias’ “Impossible Interviews” series for Vanity Fair, the exhibit explores the striking differences and similarities between the two Italian designers. Divided into seven themed galleries, the Met takes guests through a total of six decades’ worth of approximately 90 designs and 30 accessories. The exhibit runs until August 19th, 2012.
The Society and The People’s Wine collaborate on The Urban Symphony
Stepping out from the traditional concert hall, Toronto’s The Society brought members of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra to Airship 37, a contemporary event space in the city, for The Society and The People’s Wine Present: The Urban Symphony. A tasting of pinot noir and pinot gris from New Zealand’s The People’s Wine was accompanied by Peter Seminovs (violin), Sergei Nikonov (violin), Eric Nowlin (TSO associate principal viola), and Igor Gefter (cello) who played Mozart’s Divertimento No.1, Tchaikovsky’s String Quartet No. 1, second movement, Andante Cantabile to attendees. The celebrity stylist tells us about his book, Born To Be Brad
Amongst the bow tie and spectacle cookies passed around the Brooks Brothers on Bay Street in Toronto for the launch of his seven-city book tour, Brad Goreski, took a moment to talk to us about his new book, Born to be Brad: My Life and Style, So Far. The very personable Goreski exuded charm and had no problem cracking jokes. Asking him what differentiates his book from those by other notables in the fashion industry, he tells us, “The colour blocking,” followed by boisterous laughter.
“I would say it’s very honest, very truthful and authentic to me, and it’s not just a normal style guide,” he follows. “It has a lot of sense of humour, a lot of honesty and a lot of truth.” Read More…
Cindy Sherman at the MOMA
On the topic of contemporary fashion photography, Cindy Sherman has been one to continuously challenge the discipline, always working as both her own model and the photographer. The Museum of Modern Art explores Sherman’s longstanding and established career by bringing together more than 170 of her photographs. Not to be missed, the exhibition will be on display until June 11th.
