MANE ATTRACTION

Michael Fredo Salon opens in New York City

Nestled in the heart of the Upper East Side is the recently opened Michael Fredo Salon, which hosted its premiere blogger blowout last week. Amidst the light-hearted chatter and clinking of glasses filled with prosecco and fresh fruit cocktails, the salon’s talented stylists treated guests to professional blowouts and trims. Completing the quaint and amicable atmosphere, the Julliard trained Michael Fredo took to the piano throughout the evening, filling the studio space with his musical talent.

The salon has been open since this past June, and is slated to celebrate its grand opening this coming September. Services start $65 for cut and blow for women, and $40 for men.

A MINUTE WITH MAGGIE

Must-haves from Benefit’s makeup trend artist and global beauty authority, Maggie Ford Danielson

The only thing that could get us out of bed bright and early on a recent Saturday morning was the chance to see the latest from San Francisco-based cosmetics company Benefit, and when the brand’s makeup trend artist and global beauty authority, Maggie Ford Danielson (also the daughter and niece of Benefit founders Jean and Jane Ford, respectively) stopped through Toronto to chat about her Benefit favourites over breakfast, we knew had to be there. TRAVEL COMPANIONS

A new way to clean

In our travel totes this long weekend we’ll be packing towelettes, our new beauty bag must-have. Used to freshen our seemingly melting faces during a long drive to the cottage or add a much-needed boost of SPF at the beach, these are not your run-of-the-mill moist cloths.

1. If you’re caught out in the woods, get rid of grime with NIP+FAB Clean Wipes ($9.95, nipandfab.com, available at Shoppers Drug Mart), containing ginseng to balance and revitalize skin, while marshmallow soothes and softens. Read More…

GARNIER GOES GREEN

Garnier teams up with TerraCycle to reduce landfill waste

By now, many of us recycle when we can and have separate bins in nearly every room of the house or office. Making it easier for us, Garnier has teamed up with TerraCycle, a company specializing in producing consumer products from post-consumer materials to encourage recycling of personal care and beauty products, which still accounts for one-third of all landfill waste worldwide. LIGHT AS A FEATHER

Dove Spa takes us away without leaving uptown

When entering the Dove Spa, it’s easy to see that the serene space is an extension of the same brand whose super moisturizing soap is a beauty classic. The walls are decorated with quotes on beauty from icons such as Sophia Loren and Miss Piggy, and to maintain a positive attitude towards body image even their advertisements don’t use professional models, but clients from the spa instead.

The Deluxe Manicure and Pedicure ($100) were perhaps one of the best we’ve experienced—our mani is currently going on over five days strong without a nick or chip. Upping the ante, go for the deluxe versions, as they come with a hand and foot massage and super hydrating mask. Read More…
