TIME TRAVELER
Caitlin Power Spring 2012
Using powerful shapes, and strong lines, Caitlin Power presented her Spring 2012 collection following fellow TFI designer Golnaz Ashtiani. Models walked the entire runway alone, giving time for the audience to absorb the unique details of each piece. Broad shoulders and intersecting seams were signatures of the minimally coloured line. “I call it primal futurism,” Power told us. “It was kind of the first signs of the future. If you were in that era when Star Trek came out and you were thinking into the future, what it would look like. It was taking silhouettes from the past and making them futuristic.” Playing into the runway trends with tuxedo-style, asymmetrical hemlines, Power contrasted between loose and fit, masculine and feminine, but was always focusing on the most flattering areas of a woman’s body. This was Power’s first appearance at LG Fashion Week in Toronto, but appears it may not be her last. “It was a lot more work than it seems,” said Power. “But it was a great experience and I look forward to showing next season.”
