MAKING WAVES

How to get beachy hair even if you’re away from the sand

While we may be stuck in the city this summer, that doesn’t mean we can’t rock beachy waves in our hair. Here’s how we get the fresh-off-the-surf look while we pound the pavement.

The foundation to any great hair-do is a fantastic cut. Considering we’d rather be sipping cocktails on a patio than stuck at a salon, pay a visit to Phases Hair Studio (4712 Yonge St. Toronto, phases.ca) for the Enviro Cut. Artistic director Frank Tripodi dry cuts hair, just like when he’s completing makeovers for shows like CityLine, shaving 30 minutes off your visit, as well as saving water and electricity.

1. At home, lather-up with Just Bee Natural Shampoo & Conditioner in “Quenched” Sparkling Pom for moisture or “Refreshed” Calypso Coconut to invigorate the hair and scalp ($6.99 at Loblaws) for super-soft hair.

Take two-inch sections of damp hair and roll them up in 2. Goody’s Summer Waves Rollers ($11.99 for 15 rollers, goody.com) and let air-dry. If you’re fortunate to have curls without the need for curlers, pick-up 3. Moroccanoil Curl Defining Mousse ($25, moroccanoil.com) and work into damp hair to define curl and seal in moisture.

4. If you want more texture or find your hair going flat throughout the day, shake a tiny amount of Kevin Murphy Powder.Puff ($26, kevinmurphy.com.au). The weightless and texturizing powder uses seaweed and citrus extracts to help volumize hair.
