BACK TO THE FUTURE

Alexis Bittar Spring 2011

Jewelry designer Alexis Bittar, this year’s CFDA Accessory Designer of the Year, is perhaps best known for his colourful hand-carved Lucite bangles. However, over the years the line has expanded greatly to incorporate metallic elements, bold embellishments, and collaborations with the likes of Michael Kors and Jason Wu. Designed and handmade in the DUMBO neighbourhood of Brooklyn, the designs are organized into three distinct collections, Miss Havisham, Lucite and Elements, and are now sold worldwide at stores such as Bergdorf Goodman and Harrod’s.

For Spring, the 1970s and safari-inspired pieces continue the retro-futuristic mood of the past few seasons, while Bittar continues to play with new materials such as rope, felt and feathers. Over-sized silhouettes are boldly mixed with draped chains and textured surfaces, creating a memorable statement that will be sure to last all year long.
