Keep your skin moisturized with a few classic beauty standbys
There are some beauty staples we remember growing up seeing in our mother’s or grandmother’s cabinets. Knowing these products have been staples for decades, we’re looking to simplify our lives ever-so-slightly this winter while keeping our skin super soft.
Cut down the clutter of bottles and tubs of body wash, shower gels, and scrubs. Opt for the classic Dove Beauty Bar ($2.69 for 2 x 90g bars). The ultra moisturizing bar of soap is 1/4 moisturizing cream and gets back to basics without an overly strong fragrance and free of dyes.
The classic Pond’s Cold Cream ($9.99, 190ml) is perhaps one of the most versatile, yet underrated products on the market. The ultra-rich cream can be used as a cleanser that is slathered on the face and wiped away with a tissue or warm water or others opt to use it as an eye makeup remover by using a tissue or cotton ball. Some even swear by putting a thick layer on their faces before bed to act as an overnight moisturizing masque. Regardless of how you may use it, Pond’s Cold Cream can remove the most stubborn dirt and makeup from your face, all without being harsh to your delicate skin.
Pretty much everyone has a tub of Vaseline Petroleum Jelly ($2.49, 100g; $4.99, 375g) despite the fact that sometimes we’re not totally sure what to use it for. Using it for chapped lips may be the most obvious, but we like to apply some around our nostrils when we come down with a cold to prevent a dry, sore red nose. Vaseline is also excellent for applying on feet and putting on a pair of cotton socks before bed, to avoid super dry and cracked tootsies. Or, try dipping a lip brush in Vaseline and outline the nail bed when giving yourself a manicure. Vaseline will condition cuticles and dry skin around the nails, but will allow any stray polish to be easily wiped off post DIY mani.
