Baby Steinberg Spring 2012
Baby Steinberg debuted her full Spring 2012 collection, titled Remnants, on the final day of LG Fashion Week to the delight of the crowd, and FRM, who was able to catch the sneak peek pre-show on September 29.
Steinberg opened with a video spoken in Portuguese, exposing her inspiration for the collection, telling the audience “some things we value, some we don’t,” and Steinberg aimed to repurpose those things. An accordion player and vocalist followed with a bohemian-esque tune, while models began their walks.
Her exquisite creations at last year’s LGFW were so fantastic it left people clamouring to get their hands on a piece, so keeping that in mind, Steinberg wanted to create more ready-to-wear pieces for this collection.
Made from discarded fabric pieces salvaged from the textile factories of Brazil, many were woven, twisted, braided or knotted to bring texture to the printed fabrics. The runway was clad in strings and many of the garments mimicked their patterns. Embellishments, such as feathers, jewels and sheers added character to the one-of-a-kind pieces. The show was truly inspirational through fashion, philanthropy and environmentalism.
