BABY STEINBERG SPRING 2011

Apocalyptic themes engulfed the runway for the Baby Steinberg show, as audiences were given an unparalleled look at recyclable fashion at LG Fashion Week.
The strong words “Not All Trash is GARBAGE” and “SALVAGE: reclaim, repurpose, refresh” were the focus of the show, as the first model walked the runway wearing a key-embellished bikini top, carrying a gas mask, as seen in the video opener.
All garments were made from 100 percent reusable materials and featured the statement-making looks for which Steinberg is known. Wearability was put on the back-burner as audiences gasped at the uniqueness of each piece. (Side note: Baby Steinberg was a featured designer, creator of the avant-garde floral dress featured as a central image for LG Fashion Week 2010.)

The designer, an environmentalist to the core, boasts an eco-friendly work atmosphere, using old cell phone parts, bread tags and broken umbrellas in the collection, among other materials. For the collection, plastic, which is difficult to dispose, was a central theme as the sheen of the clothing exemplified the look of trash bags and used objects.
