Vancouver label Obakki’s celebrity heavy charity auction in support of the Obakki Foundation

Want to scoop up some celebrity swag all in the name of a good cause? Check out the Obakki Foundation Rainmaker Auction, on until November 14th. With signed items from Beyoncé, Coldplay, Taylor Swift and others, the Obakki Foundation aims to use fashion and creative arts as a fundraising platform to bring education and much-needed water to the people of Africa. All proceeds from the auction will help with the drilling of over 200 wells in the Sudan, all of which are personally overseen by Obakki’s creative director Treana Peake. The company also promises to upload images and video to their website shortly after Peake’s trip to show auction participants exactly where their money is going.

On-stage starlets and forward thinking fashion fans will love the over-the-top chiffon and silk confections that walked the Lucian Matis runway last night. Consisting of lollipop hues, like yellow, blue, orange, purple, red and green, the frocks and beige body suits took cues from music’s latest fetish, no-pants wearing popstars, with heavy metal details, basket weave silk bodices and flowy, see-through sheer chiffon, accented with rosettes, pleats and folds galore. According to Matis, Spring is no time to be shy.

Viviane Sassen for Scotiabank Contact Photography Festival

Combining human figures and naturalistic elements photographer Viviane Sassen, born and bred in Amsterdam, portrays through her work a vision of Africa and perception of the world around us, as part of the Dynamic Landscape exhibition at MOCCA Gallery. On until May 31st (please get there this weekend!), this powerful display of captivating imagery depicts a story of an intimate yet distant connection of a place that leaves you with a sense of hope, yet despair. Telling this story through bold colour, engaging environments and a hint of mystery, this exhibition will show this viewer different perspective of the way they view the most simplistic of surroundings.

DIESEL DENIM FIT PART 3: RACHELLE

How often do you wear denim?
I’ve been wearing denim a bit less than normal because of the winter season, but I’d say typically 2-3 times a week.

What barriers to you have when looking for denim?
I find that with my curves, denim needs to be fitted and flattering in the right areas, or else I just look frumpy.

What do you love about this fit/fabric/wash?
I love the distressed texture of these jeans, which give them a more laid back look. The wash really adds to the whole laissez fair attitude of it all. The fabric was a bit stiff when I first put them on but they definitely stretched out.

What occasion could you wear this denim?
I could see myself throwing on these jeans with a plain shirt or big comfy sweater for a leisurely afternoon shopping or brunch with friends. It’s a fairly laid back look, so something with a bit of edge and style.
