SPORTING LIFE
Athletic apparel exhibit on now at the Fashion Institute of Technology Museum
Showcasing over 100 garments, accessories, and textiles, the Museum at FIT in New York City examines the relationship between active sportswear and fashion, from the mid-19th century up until present day. The exhibit highlights the fashions of sixteen sports, including bicycling, swimming, and tennis. With many of the styles having since been drawn upon for inspiration for the runway, the exhibit’s organizers are presenting some of the active sportswear garments alongside a smattering of said inspired ready-to-wear pieces. The exhibit runs until November 5th, 2011. Admission is free and open to the public.
