At home hair colour made easy
Whether we’re cutting back on trips to the salon or just trying to balance our, do-it-yourself hair colour can be a great way to help save up for that Prada.
And while some of us dye our hair to cover a few stray greys, celebrity stylist Luis Pacheco, Clairol consulting colourist, notes that there are some people who shouldn’t permanently change their colour, because sometimes you can’t beat what nature gives you.
Pacheco suggests when selecting the right colour to know your skin tone: golden and warm skin tones should lean towards reds, caramel and auburn, while cooler tones should look at ash browns and neutrals. If unsure as to what your skin tone is, look at the veins on the inside of your arm, if they’re green, you’re warm, if more blue, you’re cool.
Here are three great ways to tackle colouring your hair at home:
Blondes can have it tough with DIY hair colour, but Garnier Nutrisse Radiant Blondes ($10.49, Garnier.ca or 888-GARNIER) has released an ammonia-free formula that provides 100 percent grey coverage in five shades of blonde. And the beige-tone of these shades provide a perfect hue that isn’t too ashy or too yellow.
We’re loving that Natural Instincts Week 2 Color Refresher ($9.99-$12.49, Clairol.ca or 800-CLAIROL) is now found in every box of Natural Instincts. The additional Week 2 Color Refresher packet delivers a boost of colour after 14 days and only takes five minutes in the shower.
Have long hair? Try Nice ‘n’ Easy Color Blend Foam ($10.99, Clairol.ca or 800-CLAIROL). The volume of the no drip formula will give you more product to apply and is easy for first timers—the application is as easy as washing your hair!
