Anu Raina Spring 2012

In deep contrast to her Fall 2011 collection, Anu Raina marked her second stint at LG Fashion Week  with a bright and cheerful Spring 2012 show. While her previous collection contained deep hues and darker fabrics, she lightened up the otherwise gloomy final day of fashion week with vibrantly saturated colours in artistic and abstract patterns. The line was inspired by the islands of Murano in northern Italy, a place famous for its glass making.

“There is a process called sandcasting that they do. They lay impressions on the sand and then they fill the impression with glass and it catches it and my collection was inspired by that,” said Raina. “So, I drew like crazy all lines and colours and I was able to get those impressions.”

The fabrics were soft, perfect for warm weather, though the patterns gave off a textured feel with woven lines creating the illusion of a colourful linen. ”I love to choose natural fabrics. I have used silks, super soft viscose and I have used linens in my collection,” she told FRM. “Fabric is so important to me. Everything begins with fabric.”

And the last exit seemed to sum up her line perfectly, with a fantastic variety of colours in the form of a waterfall chandelier, a central theme for her this season. ”Colour inspiration was totally in the glass chandeliers like the bright, vibrant colours, the saturated colours. It kind of drove me insane,” said Raina. “There’s an energy about saturated colours and then the light reflects through them, it’s totally mind-blowing.”
